What is “What’s for Dinner?"

Credit: Humans Invent
Welcome to our What’s for Dinner? site. This all started a few years back when we found ourselves at the grocery store each night trying to decide what to have for dinner. Needless to say, we often became overwhelmed with choices and possibilities, and realizing that we’d spent way to much time trying to make a decision, were left reaching for the quick and easy options: pizza, pasta, or frozen foods.
Not only was this not healthful decision-making, but it was also frustrating because we love to cook. How could we orchestrate things so that we could focus less on the shopping and more on preparation and enjoyment of food? Easy solution: plan out our menus ahead of time. And so What’s for Dinner? was born.
We create weekly menus, Saturday through Friday, with links to recipes (or ingredients, at the very least) so we can do our shopping quickly and for multiple meals. The weekly menus often have quick dinners on weekday evenings and showcase longer or more involved recipes on the weekends when we can devote time to experimenting, building flavors, and enjoying the pace of preparing meals from scratch.
This Postach.io site is just the latest iteration of our WfD? blog. First we were on tiddlyspot, a wiki site - cerbhs.tiddlyspot.com. Then we moved to Blogger, a more traditional blogging host - carrieandben.blogspot.com. When we started with Blogger we were using Springpad (now defunct) to keep our individual recipes and creating links in WfD? posts to each Springpad note. But then we discovered Evernote. We were keeping all sorts of things in Evernote, so why not recipes? Like Springpad, each note in Evernote can be shared with a unique URL.
By now, we had all our recipes in Evernote but were still having to go back and forth between Evernote and Blogger to create each week’s menu. That is until Postach.io came along. Postach.io builds posts directly from Evernote. We can simply tag a note “published" and it will appear on this site as a new post. Simplicity itself!
We hope you enjoy our site. Happy eating!
